Founded in 2021, the mission of Urban Scholar Film Academy is to share the communal and creative process of filmmaking with urban youth (14-18 years of age) who reside within the City of Inglewood and surrounding communities.
Led by Imhotep Coleman (West Los Angeles Professor & Veteran Assistant Director- Scandal, Southland, 9-11 & The Bridge ) and other industry professionals, our hands-on program, involves a yearly cohort of 15-20 students, from the surrounding area, who will learn the process of scriptwriting and filmmaking throughout the year from industry professionals.
If you’re interested in having your child learn and develop hands-on experience about the film/television industry, contact us today.

Before the program, I was greatly interested in the Film industry, but had limited experience in actually creating a film. Urban Scholars has allowed me to fully experience what it is like to work on a real production set. The program was an overall amazing opportunity for me to rotate between crew departments and see which roles fit me best when pursuing a career in the actual industry. I loved collaborating with real industry experts and my fellow peers, ultimately allowing us to produce our best work possible!
